Leading Wireless P2P Connectivity

Remember the good old days? We watched regularly scheduled television programs, listened to whatever was on the radio, and called people on the phone. Things may have been much simpler, but we sure wasted a lot of time.

In the age of digital media, we can watch and listen to whatever we want, whenever we want. Thanks to advancements in consumer electronics, we can download and enjoy media content on a variety of devices – from smartphones and tablets to computers and TVs. And because billions of these devices use Wi-Fi, we can enjoy media content anywhere without being tethered by wires.

But what if you are watching a movie on your tablet and want your family to see it, too? Instead of huddling around the small screen, why not show it on the television? Wi-Fi Display makes that happen. This newest peer-to-peer protocol allows people to instantaneously view videos, web contentand photos, or listen to audio on multiple Wi-Fi devices at once.

No cables, no network, no file transfers.

Using Wi-Fi Display, you simply pair Wi-Fi devices and mirror whatever is on one screen to another. Because you’re not actually “transferring” content between devices, you don’t need to be connected to a home network or even have Internet connectivity. That simplicity is especially important when you want to share content between mobile devices outside the home. Imagine colleagues collaborating on a presentation on an airplane, or kids sharing movies on a road trip.

Standardized and Certified

As a leading supplier of Wi-Fi solutions, Qualcomm Atheros is creating an ecosystem of products with Wi-Fi Display capabilities. Our latest dual-band 802.11n solutions support Wi-Fi Display to enable better wireless experiences for the world’s leading brands of mobile devices, consumer electronics and computers.

The foundation of our Wi-Fi Display implementation is Wi-Fi Direct – the first standardized peer-to-peer technology. Unlike proprietary solutions, Wi-Fi Display is based on open standards and will be certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance. This standardization should drive widespread adoption and interoperability that will enable consumers to make the most of their Wi-Fi devices with a host of peer-to-peer applications.

Safe and Sound

Even peer-to-peer connections need to be protected from the outside world. Wi-Fi Display employs Wi-Fi Protected Access II (WPA2) technology – the same security features that keep your home network safe and sound. It also provides effective content protection mechanisms that allow consumers to share their digital content securely from one device to the other.
